I've always run 87 in mine, seem fine and return decent mpg. Mine are carbs, perhaps yours performs differently. You can try a tankful and see if you notice anything.

Had MM racks with ZRX shocks and didn't see that. However, didn't need the MM so ended up selling them off, maybe that could have happened to me or maybe the ZRX shock top was much like the stock...
