If it is a newer bike with current plates, the bike probably has a lien on it.
In some states the lein holder has the title until it's paid off.

Make sure you don't do west TX at nite. The deer seem to be everywhere!
Gas is hard to find at nite too.

At this time of year I'd probably stay at the lower elevations. I'd spend most of my time in SW Texas. Fort Davis and especially the Big Bend area. Big Bend is the best place to ride when it's cold...
