Copper slip is not good for spline's, it will encourage premature wear (metal content). Get it outta there (good luck, it's hard to remove).
As to the rear crankshaft seal, it's entirely upto you....

Good info there, but the rear window's sit in a recsess and with the seal on we cant even get it into the recsess. Tried hand slapping the thing, just did'nt want to go in.

So we're not even close...
