I just did a quick search and there are quite a few trials tires in 17" sizes. Don't know how they will hold up on a BMW but they are DOT rated.

The owners manual lists the dry weight at 167 kg. I would venture a guess that BMW is pretty reliable as far as the specs are concerned. Anybody know differently?

That standoff is well over a pound of uselessness if you toss the roo bar. You should be able to fab up some sort of aluminum bracket for the headlight/dash.

Mines all been pulled and replaced...
