I should say to fix it i bought just a new chain (sprockets not in budget) and they fitted it. The bike has not hiccuped since. I prepared the bike very well apart from the chain!

Work on your changes, it makes a big difference. Practice blipping as you change down to smooth the change. It made a big difference when i had my girlfriend on the back, now i do it all the time...
