Since we're talking about prying the brake pads to get them over the rotor, here's a tip I learned from a mechanic:

Take a small combo wrench and use that to pry open the pads.
Work your way up...

try using elbow grease+microfiber towel+wd40.

On a related note, I switched to a K&N oil filter, it has a welded nut and is easier to remove. :freaky
