I'm 6'4" with a 37" inseam and ride a 2005 R1200 GS with the higher stock seat. That's comfortable for 800, 900 miles a day, if necessary.

The problem was the left multi-function switch. After hosing down the bike the dealer could reproduce the problem; they exchanged the switch under warranty. No problems since.
