+1 on the bilt gear. It what my daughter wears when she rides with me. It's adjustable so there is some room for growth. It doesn't vent very well, but she's protected.

I use a set of basic earbuds with radians ear plugs molded around them. Not as good as an audiologist built set, and not really in the same league, but they cost me $40 or so, not the several hundred...

You're absoutly right, a big part of the issue is that I ride a sport bike, but I was so miserable on the Harley, that it probably won't get another chance to impress me. Which is a shame.
