I seem to remember at one or another of the sidecar rallies I have been to, that someone had built a rig with a starter motor on the sidecar wheel as a "reverse" mode.

I run an 83 GL1100 standard in a 80 frame with a Ural sidecar with a plexifaring II windshield and I get between 28 and 35 mpg depending on wind, speed, terrain, etc....
