I would go with a newer 300 Evo. I cant fault mine in any way. It can be neutered, or you can 'take it to the bridge'. I see no reason the bike cant be bored to a 330, or bored and stroked to a 340....

I dont get to ride every day. So when I do, I make sure to shake the bike to slosh the fuel left in the tank. I hold the front brake and bounce up and down and then shake the bike side to side...
