Too much

I run a 16 tooth and can cruise very comfortably at 120-125 km/h. The bike itself is not "comfortable" at sustained speeds beyond that anyway, and if you're running a 17T front you will be......

Klr650

It's the best 'cause it's cheaper than most. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to run. Goes perhaps not as fast, but just as far. I don't cry when it tips. I never need to fix it. I ride 400 km between...

Heavyweights

It is your weight requirement that is causing the problem. Less than 280 pounds of bike is like a CR450x or something. Your beloved KLR (and mine) weighs almost 200 pounds more than that with a full...

Well, I think if you have a 685, I'd go 16/43. You've got the grunt. I have a 16/43 with a stock motor and I love it. Cruising is so nice.

Could be nuttin'

I agree - it's tough to straight-up compare two bikes that were built years apart. You're assuming all things are equal, when there is nothing to say that's the case. Maybe your '06 was built on a...

Are you going to Deadhorse or are you doing the Dempster?

I think you're right there - as our experiences differ quite a bit. I agree that 5000-5500 won't hurt the KLR too much, but now at 5500 I'm doing like 130 km/h, rather than about 120... which on the...

K761 Report

I run K761s on my 2009 KLR - love 'em. Have gotten 15,000 km on the rear, and about 10,000 km off the front before I replaced it this year (seems backwards, but whatever). Rear needs replacing now......

No foul up at all... I get the diff between K and KM.

As for my mileage, the bike is just over two years old... and riding seasons are shorter in Canada than they are in Cali.

The Sky

Ridiculous!

My 2009 KLR has 23,000 km on it and runs better than new. Treated well, a KLR will do at least 100,000 km. Beat to hell, it will still do 60,000 km.

Frankly, given that KLR stands...

Holy cow! How did you go down to 29 mpg in a klr???

I average about 4.5 to 5 litres per 100/km - that's around 50 mpg to my American friends. :freaky

Lessons Learned from Installing Steel Braided Brake Lines on a KLR 650

I installed some Gaffer Steel Braided Brake Lines on my '09 KLR - they're pretty blue so they match my ride. Easy job, right? Here are a couple pointers that could have saved us a lot of grief:
