Tiger 800XC too much?

I'm signed up, planning on bringing my XC. After seeing the comments about 650's and 400's I'm wondering if that's the best idea. I have an old NX250 but I'd rather come down on the bigger bike....

Based on what I have read, I suspect the fuel sensor. Has anyone had one die on them?
