As you probably already know, the cam chain tensioner relies on oil pressure. How old is the oil. If it's due a change, I'd do that and see if new oil helps.

You shouldn't be concerned at all because the 800XC is way more capable than it looks. BUT it would depend on your expectations. i.e. if you expect it to ride like a 250 MXer you'll be disappointed....

I've been running my rear at 36psi on road and dirt and it's been very stable and has worn exceptionally well. i.e. still got a couple of thousand in it after 8300 miles.
