Sorry but I think the mechanic is wrong. Your bike should happily sit for years and run fine when needed. Agreed - do not run the bike for short periods.

I'd put money on - oil, alternator belt, tyres, valves will be fine these things do not "go off". You don't need a service. I'd probably consider a brake fluid change fairly soon.

Figure out a good way to clean the alloy and dedicate gear to an alloy weld setup (verses MS or SS) - use a dedicated wire brush and grinder to trim...
