Could just be leftover from assembly. I'd clean it up it up and make sure the brake fluid has not damaged the finish or contaminated the pads. once your sure it's clean, see if it returns.

I used high temp wheel bearing grease and have had no trouble. Pretty simple procedure. Just loosen the mounting bolts evenly and the slave will come off the back of the transmission housing....

If the valves cannot be filled with a standard air chuck, and BMW provides no special tool to do so, then their should be a recall to replace them. Best to report the problem to the NHTSA.
