I think you had to have gotten a defective bolt or something. When I cranked mine down, I used a wrench with like an 8 inch handle and really cranked it down.

If it's been sitting since 2001, I'll be honest, there will be a ton of soft parts like seals that need replacing. Just like letting any other bike sit, it's usually worse for them than riding them....
