The broken stud got drilled out at a shop with a carbide bit. Took them two hours, so I'm thinking it would have taken me a bit longer... :evil

there is carbon on the piston, and a spot worn off under the valve. The valve face looks ok, but it is bent, so I'd say there is evidence. I'll pull the head apart tomorrow.
