Zinc Chromate

Painted a lot of outdrives with Mercury Marine brand Zinc Chromate self etching primer. That was followed by their black topcoat. I have to say for rattle cans this stuff held up under water.

In a past life I was a painter, for what that's worth.

Don't know of any rattle can paints that will really stand up to gas and or oil, but the paint shouldn't flake if it has good mechanical...

I would consider some type of filler putty if I was down and out, but if I'm going through all the trouble of rebuilding the bike and the motor is out, it's getting a new shaft.:D

I'd go along with this statement.

The connection are the weakest link and if you aren't a purest about have your bike factory stock, then do away with them.

Those look a lot like the old Avon Distanza tires I ran on my 650. The side walls dry rotted before the tread gave out. I don't know what the weight difference between the KTM and the @, but I'm sure...

They allow the gears to slide between one another. If it was a non synchronized transmission it would be a bitch to shift it. The heavier oil could be messing with it also.
