Any oil works. Fork oil, engine oil, transmission oil, cooking oil :D. Must be greasy. Put some (not much, soak your finger) and smear switcher. Oil will penetrate and cover rest of the surface....

NorCalDave, put some oil (or something greasy) on switches on steering bar. They look like sunburnt ;-). This will refresh them. Mine look like new :-)

I dont have old panels, tehese are the only ones I have. This is the bike standing as i bought it. Now has little scratches, but you know - adventure without a scratch is like rim without a tire :D....
