I made mine adjustable, cut it off and welded a threaded bung in the end then cut the head off a 1/2x 20 bolt and welded a piece of 3/16" x 1-3/4" round stock to it.

Mine had always done that so I tossed the ball,spring and pin,replaced with a 6m bolt and nylock and tighten it snug so it stays in the up position but loose enough to flip down.

Slide in handle is on the to do list,just haven't tripped over it yet.
I only use the stand for lubing the chain and washing the bike, for anything else I put it on the lift....
