I had the same problem. A new battery was the solution. Rather than do a warranty return (they wanted the whole unit, cradles and all), I just bought one and sent Garmin a nasty letter.

Sounds like the "Seasonal Road Closure" avoidance is checked in the activity you're using. IIRC, Monitor is closed in the winter. One of my favourite Sierra routes.
