FWIW, rolling element bearings don't actually require much grease. The whole "pack it to the gills" thing is wrong and can actually lead to early bearing failure due to excessive heat or seal...

Something tells me they wouldn't have put it there if it didn't serve a purpose. Maybe the cap threads don't work perfectly and that was cheaper than a new mold. I would leave it on.
