Walk
If your work is only two miles away, why risk riding on ice? 2 miles is 1/2 hour walk. Walk to work in snow/ice conditions. Just my 2 cents worth. Glad you are not hurt yet.

smooth transition
Yes, luckily for me the transition from riding to sliding was pretty smooth. I'd claim to have planned it that way, but it was largely luck.

Update
Talked to his Dad yesterday. After a week and a half in hospital, Chad is now able to recognize some people and is beginning to try to speak a bit. Looks like a long round of rehab.
