soaked mine in a couple of gallons vinegar for a couple of days and the original liner was gone. let the POR kit do the rest.
For an extra $20 I recommend using the auto kit.

I also had the BikeMaster Bars fit with no modifications. We used the 7/8" Chrome Euro bars, the controls fit very well. I have the 7/8" SuperBike bars for another project but haven't tried them yet....

If I remember correctly the OEM fork fluid was MIL 5606. Anyone using it? At $23 a gallon or even $8 a quart it's cheaper than most fork oils.
I'll probably use it when I do mine this winter.
