Don't have to be an expert rider to navigate the rough stuff on a 650 sized bike. It's probably easier than on a 400 b/c you have more power to get you up hills and through tough spots.

My dad and I rode the TAT and I rode my 640E and he rode a 530 exc-r. Both of these were great choices although we had to modify the 530 to accept some soft bags but they both performed flawlessly....
