Put some silicone tape under the heating elements and you should get better performance out of the low setting. Add some handlebar mitts and you don't really need the high setting.

Skip US 1 and TJ for the border crossing. I know the freeway is boring in CA, but the extra time in Baja is worth it. Cross at Tecate, it will be faster and a lot less crazy traffic.
