keep looking

I have an '07. If your bike is the newer ABSII like mine, I'd look for a micro switch issue before I'd believe the pump was shot. That thing is much more bullet proof than the servo brakes on earlier...

'07 tensioner

I replaced the tentioner spring on the right side of my '07 GS at about 50K. It made a huge difference in "ticking" sounds and took very little time - including taking off the valve cover to eyball...

Question potential driveshaft issue?

I recently got my GS back from the dealer who, among other things, spooned on a new set of Heidenaus to replace worn out Shinko 705s. I noticed that there is a strange vibration now. I should mention...

new key

I doesn't make sense to me that they need the bike. I have a 2007 GS that I needed a spare key for. The dealer (who didn't sell me the bike) needed my title and DL to order the correct key from...

Do you find yourself falling over a lot?

If the answer is yes and you own a R1200 - then yes, you need crash bars. :norton

Seriously though, I agree the BMW basic set is not very helpful in anything approaching a real get-off at any...

battery-brake switches-electrical fault

... in that order. My buddy's '05 had the exact same symptoms and he had similar advice including, but not limited to "new servos". Turns out the servo brakes are EXTREMELY sensitive to a bad battery...

Insurance - a primer

[I wrote this and then realized that yes, I am the most boring person in the room.]

I think it is great you are really checking up on this company before you buy its product. The world would be a...

Too good to be true....

The person's name and hometown may be legit but stolen so don't go by that alone. Having a phone conversation with them is another good check - not exclusive proof of good intent, but if he/she...

I swapped the stock suspension on my 2007 GS with Elkas at around 50k. Remote adjustable front and rear with high and low speed damping. Preload on the rear. For me price was important and they were...

Bad idea

Here are a few things to consider:

1. Most states impose owner liability by statute so regardless of who is driving or how much insurance is available you are on the hook as a potential defendant...

I have an '07 and I can't say there is a lot of noise like you describe when coasting at that speed other than tire noise. I say take it back to the dealer before too much time passes. That seems the...

Sounds like bad luck to me. I wouldn't overthink bad bulbs on two different bikes - unless it happens again. Then start with the obvious common denominators such as: are you using the same...

You do not have to remove the valve cover. I did because I wanted to make sure that the guide was in good shape and not too worn. The tensioner actually pushes up (at least on the right side cyl...

New tensioner sping installed in about 10 minutes fixed it

I finally got around to putting the new tensioner spring and piston in last night. It was a quick job and viola! No clacking noise on startup. I can't believe what an easy fix that was. Anyone...

Thanks

That's exactly what I'm hearing. I don't think its valve train noise - it happens only on startup and only for a few seconds - if that. It's probably more like a few tenths of a second.

Its definitely from the right side. I pulled the valve cover and eye-balled the cam chain. I pulled the tensioner too - just to see if I could see anything obviously wrong with the setup. The chain,...

the cam chain tensioner? I read somewhere that the "upgraded" part for the 1150 is standard issue on the 1200. Can they go bad at 50K?

Question '07 GS making funny noise on startup

Ok, so I've had this bike for almost a year. It's an '07 GS with ~55K miles. I've put about 6K on it myself. The last oil change was Mobile 1 15/50 full synth about two months ago. On startup the...

Radials

I've had 705 radials on my '07 GS for about 3K miles. No issues. I think they are fantastic in the dirt, average for a 70/30 tire in the mud, and felt very confident in heavy rain with luggage. I...

Radials
