there is a vacuum release plate gasket/seal on the slide that doesnt get along well with carb cleaner
sounds like you need to replace it as yours is probably swollen

Yes fork oil is fine as well as hydraulic oil, baby oil, atf, motor oil in a pinch
pretty much any oil.
The point is it has to be oil as opposed to brake fluid which will damage the seals.

Using shell rotella t dino oil since break in. Oil changes typically around 500 miles but went 1600 on a two week Colorado trip last summer....

This way when I turn off the key (exc) the grip heaters turn off so I can't accidently leave them on. Also if its cold enough to use grip heaters...
