Same here, I have a DR 650 and a DL (V Strom) 650. If just dirt roads, the Strom will be fine, put a bash plate on it. Sounds like you will put on a lot of miles and the Strom is legendary reliable...

Don't know about the increase in power, this one seems pretty peppy. I am having issues with it being hard to shift, 1st to 2nd often results in neutral, then another up shift gives the desired gear....
