Have you tried to take the gas cap off to see if you have a vacuum on the tank? On my Rebel bobber, it was the vent on the gas cap that cause this to it.

Won't disengage, I guess. I can crank it up, holding the clutch in, drop it into 1st, release the clutch then nothing happens... I tried it in 2nd gear too, nothing.

Well,after hours on the interwebs looking for cheap ways to lower my bike,I finally decided to jump in with both feet and try it. I made some lowering links for the rear shock,ended up pretty good....
