Try turning the spring with your hands with the bike off the ground..... worked for me for years on many different bikes. you may also use a preload spanner or a strap wrench

Stop going. I know it sucks but really the hassle and costs on top of not being able to see much and having to walk miles and wait in lines to piss in discusting bathrooms has made it easy for me.......

ultrasonic is really the only to get it really clean. you can blow out some crap with a carb cleaner filled tube under pressure but the vibs really clean it.
