That does not sound good. I think the stem should be a press fit into the lower clamp. In the parts microfiche, the stem and lower clamp are one part. You should definitely not have to tighten it up...

The 3.0 Core kit allows you to retain more of the clutch disks than just installing the 3.0 EXP. When you install the EXP by itself, you have to remove several plates and disks to make room for it....
