The "fork brace" is the part down lower between the fender halves.

What you're referring to is commonly referred to as a lower fork tree or a lower triple tree.

Is that some sort of custom bracket to mount the cluster? JMHO but you'd be a lot better off using an RS cluster mount....

That's only for the silver screws with blue paint on them. The brass vacuum adjusters can (and should) be adjusted to sync the TBs. Then adjust the idle screw.

You don't need to remove the fairing to replace the handlebars with C or RT bars.

Change to C bars: You may need to replace the brake line...

It doesn't matter what it was. The standard, C and S models all had the same tank and frame. (Though the Cs and early standards had a rear drum brake.)

IMO, where BMW really f'd up was not...
