I'm about 240lbs without gear, and do it all the time. Haven't had an issue in 4 years of riding the bike. Sidestand seems fairly sturdy...

Hell, even a 700 or 800cc twin would still be lighter, and could be tuned for great low end. Another advantage is center of gravity as well; 2-strokes carry their weight a lot lower than 4-strokes....

Just rode Baja (San Diego to Cabo and back over 3 weeks) on my 690E and had it loaded with a fair amount of crap (240lbs of rider as well...) and the 690 worked just fine....and so far it's holding...
