don't underestimate the amount of cranking it will take to get fuel down to the carb to turn the engine over. i let my klr sit for a few months after draining the carb and i killed the battery...

i swapped out the stockers with pro taper atv hi aluminum bars from ht and they helped quite a bit as well. i also went with some thicker gel type grips and an aluminum throttle tube.
