I'm kinda surprised the Kokusan ignition may be giving you problems. I've found it to be very reliable--at least on the dirt bikes I've owned that used it.

As far as the bars go, I've always preferred them lower and back--which is kinda strange since I'm 6' 2" with a 38" inseam. I do ride with a relaxed grip--I'm a pretty fluid...
