Just went through the process with my '05 this week. Caliper pins had never been removed. Front pin was rusted in place. Rear pin bolt was seized.

Cut both boots off and dripped PB blaster...

While doing a brake fluid flush on my '05 R1200GS , I discovered 1 of my rear brake pads was almost completely worn out while the other looked virtually new.

Whatever you do, make sure it is securely attached. My "05 Vario topcase flew off when I hit a pot hole. Luckly, she wasn't using it as a back brace.
