Last year they made gps tracks available, but pretty sure roll charts will still be the primary navigation tool. It's the best way to indicate hazards etc along the route.

Also concider that the crank, flywheel and piston on the KLR are probably 3 X the weight of the 690, so conceivably, at 1200 RPM, the KLR will lug better, but could take a week to reach 6000 RPM...

I went from 250mm to 300mm on my 2008 and just went with a '09 690R (275mm) side stand, and works fine. The little extra lean helps when getting on :)
