I had one on both my 01 & 04 GS. 50K to 60K miles all told. I forgot it was there.

The best news is I never had to touch up any stone chips on the front frnder.

A thousand mile day is not a big deal. In any event, you have to do a Saddle Sore 1000 before you can attempt to certify any of the more aggresive rides. I don't even bother sending the SS-1000 stuff...

Had the same thing happen on another bike years ago. I ended up getting it out with Miguires #7 & #9 and a TREMENDOUS amount of polishing. Good luck.
