Water temperature sensor shows 42 ohm resistance with the HOT engine not running.

You start the engine, and it goes from 42ohm to infinite...

check to see if there are oil leaks from the cylinder head, cylinder jug, or the valve cover -- they will wrap any of those parts if they get hot enough..
Always check: all rubber for dry rot.....
