Thanks for the pictures Switchblade315. I gather from the pictures that the scrap aluminun was used for shims because the new mid pipe was smaller in dia than the stock pipe?

If your dad was set on a Yamaha, the FZ-07 would have been a better choice for you than the FJ-09. The seat hgt on the FZ-07 is listed at 31.6 , it has around 60HP and weighs about half as much.

The Yamaha FZ-09 transition to the FJ-09 added 48 lbs and $2,300. A 675 based tourer would probably add the equivalent unwanted weight and cost.
