Tablets have Solid State Drives (no moving parts) rather than a Hard Disk Drive (moving parts). The size of the SSD in Windows tablets tends to start at 32Gb and goes up from there (as does the $$$)

Get at least a 64gb SSD, 32gb ones don't have much room left for maps after Windows 8 is installed. Not an issue if strictly reading the maps on a GPS in Basecamp.

8" is a bit small for these old...

Do you have "Mapinstall"? I believe that is what Basecamp uses to transfer maps to a GPS. Check to see if Mapinstall is in the Garmin folder in the Programs part of the Start menu.

There are no prompts when following a track. Change the setting for "battery saver" so the screen doesn't go blank. Carry some spare batteries. Keep the backlight to a minimum.
