I suspect he didn't want to sell just the wires because it isn't really worth his time. He would rather sell the complete kits.

All you need to do is find the correct ECU connectors and crimp...

Yep. My Alaska trip was in 2012 and I rode an '11 GSA. My buddy on the trip had a '12 GSA. The extra range was nice.

If I trade up to a GSA it won't be until I put some miles my GS and they offer...

I always use a torque wrench on critical fasteners like wheel lugs, engine bolts, suspension bolts, handle bars, etc. I trust my large torque wrench.
