I've ridden in 49 states and have never been checked for helmet DOT compliance. Obviously, some states don't require helmets.

Roadcrafter one piece is a great commuter suit. For touring, I prefer the Roadcrafter two piece. FWIW, the bib eliminates the need for zipping the jacket/pants together.
