Not sure I understand your conundrum but if you plan it out via Google, download it into a KML, then use the KML to GPX converter, it works fine in Mapsource. Or does for me at least.

Definitely sign up now. Not only is the MSF class very useful but sometimes they book months ahead of time (especially with summer coming on). I had to wait 3 months for mine.
