So try this. Grip your other thumb with your right hand. Buy putting your right thumb in line with your left, then wrap the rest of your fingers around it. Sort of like if you was going to pinch it...

These are neat and cheap.
These very small lights are cheap and very bright for their size. Why not buy several and stash a few on the bike ,car and pockets.

I'll never wear a boot with heels.

Your answer is in your first post.
It was probley just the wind. Your bike on the sidestand is much more stable side to side than an centerstand would be. Much larger foot print. Just take a cord, rope or bungie and secure the side...
