Have you done a compression check?

Unless it has known issues, I wouldn't assume it needs a rebuild with those miles. Those slant fours are pretty solid motors - I drove a couple to those miles and they were still running strong.

I've got some raising links from an 03 VStrom 1000

Not sure if they'd fit your bike, but I believe they raised the rear of my '03 DL1000 about an inch. Raising the rear may give you a little quicker turn in too, but should give you a little more...

county cops and ticks

For anyone heading west, if you take 460 there are occassional radar traps (particularly Dinwiddie county). And the ticks are out!!

As most of you already know, it's worth the ride out there -...

Ditto on the GWNF FS roads

I rode these on a loaded Tenere last weekend, they were in good shape and open. Next time I'm going to remove all the bags:D for a more fun ride.

Remember to take your gazeteer (or gps for you...

Did the conservation easement years ago, VA Dept of Forestry didn't have demanding requirements and I got a bunch of tax write-offs. They created my Forest Stewardship Plan too.

I never intended...

I like the farm idea

There may even be more tax writeoffs than you think. I noticed I may be able to get a write-off if I don't cut down timber in my riparian buffers. Going to look into it for next year.

I like the...

From Hampton Roads, to GWNF areas

look for southerly alternate routes too.

460 to Route 40 (pick up in Waverly, creates a loop south of Petersburg and back to 460 at Blackstone), then lots of backroads over toward GWNF in Amherst...

I've had mine forever (feels like it),,,

Already replaced the threaded rod once, easy fix, I found someone close who will do tires if I bring wheel/tire in off bike. I'm getting older....that and I'd rather ride than wrench these days.

Phonic

Glad you're back on your bike.

Hyper Lites have some great options for LED tail/brake/turn lights. Top of my list everytime I get another bike, especially since I commute daily on the bike.

Just for this purpose. I put them on before inspection every year, then take them off. Clearwater Krista's, very happy with the lights.

Nice

Brookies are my favorite, I learned to fly fish on brookies and spend most of my time chasing them. Great fun on a 2 weight rod.

I need to visit the Bullpasture sometime.
