I have done 45.000km on my +2012 V-Strom. I have ridden the earlier version several times and have tried the 660 Tenere a few times.

The Tenere is by far the best...

I'll be heading in that direction mid July.

My plan so far is to head southeast from Denmark and roughly follow/explore the Carpathians from Slovakia to Romania.
From there I've got no specific plans yet - I'm split between visiting Turkey...

As long as you have the required papers (passport + registration and insurance papers for the bike) there are no problems...

Yes petrol is expensive in Europe, but riding a bike you will be hard pressed to burn 200EUR worth of fuel in a day as you will get approx. 125 liters/33 gallons of petrol for that amount of money.
