I have done both Vic high country and outback (including Simpson crossing unsupported) with DrAT so I can vouch for his advice. Those roads aren't so gnarly that goggles will give you any advantage...

it was very easy. Wide gravel road at the south end and narrowing to an easy dirt road at the north end with a few larger rocks in the road base. Clay at the north end would be slippery in the rain....
