bugs out of the oil cooler

Gently, so you don't flatten any fins, shoot compressed air from back to front, then gently (again, don't flatten the fins) rinse back to front with a hose. That works for me.

Stick out one knee when in a crosswind - the downwind knee. It's amazing how it interrupts the flow and makes it a little less dodgy in cross winds.

If the battery won't run the fuel pump, it won't start.
If the battery would make the starter work on the roll downhill, why not just charge it up more before trying this stunt?

Top off the tank when you expect ride it immediately for some distance. If not going some distance to burn off fuel, don't top it off. Problem solved.
